My Story

Our mission is to become the primary First Aid and CPR training agency in Eastern Ontario by providing ease of access to the latest training available in an enjoyable environment. The more people we train the more lives we will save.

“Saving lives one course at a time"

In 1988, "The First Aid Guy" Andrew Johnston performed Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation on his neighbour when the gentleman’s heart stopped beating at home. Although the neighbour did not survive a spark was lit within Andrew.

Andrew went on to become a CPR Instructor, then a First Aid Instructor and for the last 20 years he has been advancing his skills and experience. But something was missing; despite training hundreds of people part time he felt a need to make a bigger impact.

Currently a First Aid and Emergency Care Instructor Trainer with the Canadian Red Cross continues to try and train as many people as possible in First Aid and CPR/AED

First Aid Ottawa was born out of a desire that if first aid training was provided within an enjoyable atmosphere then more people would get trained and more lives could be saved. Too many people think first aid is scary and first aid training is boring when in fact when taught properly the skills can be learned in a fun way. In January of 2015 the company was rebranded as TheFirstAidGuy.ca to better reflect the market we serve.

Since getting the training is only the first step TheFirstAidGuy.ca also sells first aid supplies and Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs). AEDs are compact medical devices that when applied to a person in cardiac arrest (their heart has stopped beating) will shock the heart to re-start it. These devices are easy to use and are priced in such a way that they can be purchased for use in the home or office.

Andrew and his dedicated team of Instructors look forward to seeing you in one of their classes and giving you the skills and knowledge to save a life.
